Earlier this month, the Wisconsin Badgers got some great news for a key prospect on the 2024 recruiting trail. 2024 guard Daniel Freitag announced his commitment to Greg Gard and staff.

— Daniel Freitag (2024) (@DanielFreitag_) June 2, 2023
Freitag originally comes out of Alexandria, Minnesota and is listed at 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds. 247Sports rates him as a four-star prospect and the best current prospect in California and a top 70 player in the 2024 recruiting class. Along with Wisconsin, he also has offers from Baylor, Califonira, Iowa, and Iowa State among others.
From a scouting perspective, Freitag is an athletic player that does plenty of damage in transition. He probably still needs some modest improvement of his handle, but he can play with both hands and convert in the lane. If he continues to grow there, gets stronger, and expands more to the perimeter, there’s a ton of potential.
With Freitag’s commitment, Wisconsin now has two players in its 2024 recruiting class, highlighted by Freitag. The other commitment is Jack Robison, who is also a top 200 player and fits what Wisconsin has generally sought in wings under Gard. It’s a nice two-man combo, though the Badgers certainly aren’t done yet.
We’ll have to wait and see what Freitag brings to Madison, but Badger fans have to be excited about adding such a talented prospect to the fold. And that’s even more true considering some of the programs Wisconsin beat out to land him.
