Recap all the Big Ten action from Wednesday.

NCAA Basketball: Georgetown at Rutgers Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

The Big Ten had a quieter slate on Thursday, but it still featured three teams in action. The biggest game was a matchup between Rutgers and Georgetown as the Scarlet Knights hoped to get the team’s first win against a name brand this season.

Let’s take a look at what happened.

Game of the Night:

-Rutgers Scarlet Knights 71, Georgetown Hoyas 60

The Scarlet Knights entered this game as solid favorites and lived up to that billing, cruising to an 11-point win over the Hoyas at home. Derek Simpson stood out in the win, as the young guard finished with 15 points, four assists, and one rebound. Aundre Hyatt also finished with 15 points and four assists. Rutgers’ offense finished with 1.01 points per possession, which was an encouraging showing after the last few games.

Rutgers improved to 3-1 overall with the win. The team has still yet to beat a top tier opponent, but Georgetown was still a step up in competition from the last two opponents and are well coached. The key for the Scarlet Knights will be building on this game. Rutgers will return to action on Saturday at home against Howard.

The Rest:

-Nebraska Cornhuskers 84, Stony Brook Seawolves 63

For the fourth time so far this season, Nebraska faced an overmatched opponent at home and cruised to a double-digit win. All four opponents were ranked outside the top 200 on KenPom, but Nebraska took care of business. Juwan Gary led the way in this one with 19 points and seven rebounds in just 23 minutes of play.

Nebraska now sits at 4-0 overall. The team will get its first name brand opponent this weekend with Oregon State in Sioux Falls on Saturday. The Huskers are favored.

-Ohio State Buckeyes 76, Merrimack Warriors 52

This game was over early, as Ohio State jumped out to a double-digit lead and never looked back. Roddy Gayle led the way with 20 points, five rebounds and three assists. Jamison Battle also had a good showing with 13 points and four rebounds.

Ohio State improved to 2-1 overall with the win. The Buckeyes will return to action on Sunday at home against Western Michigan. Expect another lopsided victory.
