Illinois men’s basketball earned a commitment from 247Sports composite three-star combo guard Jase Butler on Wednesday. Butler is the 189th ranked national prospect and the 24th ranked combo guard in the class of 2024.

Butler is Illinois’ first commitment in the class of 2024, joining four-star Morez Johnson and three-star Jaskon Jakstys. As currently constructed, Illinois’ 2024 class is ranked 10th overall in the country and third in the Big Ten. The Illini’s three commits also rank third in the league.

Butler hails from The Branson School in San Francisco, California. His other offers included Wyoming, San Jose State, Cal State Fullerton and California Baptist among others. He is the only member of the Illini’s 2024 class thus far to be from a state other than Illinois.

The 2024 class will fill three of Illinois six open scholarship spots on the 2024-25 roster, which could make for a sizable transfer class during the 2024 offseason.
