The Michigan State Spartans picked up an important verbal commitment yesterday from 2022 four-star power forward recruit Jaxon Kohler.

Kolher comes out of American Fork, Utah and plays for Southern California Academy. He is a highly rated four-star composite prospect in the 2022 class by 247Sports. The recruiting site lists him at 6-foot-8 and 250 pounds. He is also rated as the No. 69 player in his class, the No. 11 power forward, and the No. 7 player out of Utah.

Kohler is lauded as being a productive post player, drawing comparisons from some Spartan fans to former center Nick Ward. He is likely to get a lot of coaching on defense from the staff, however, as that is an area noted as needing improvement and any Big Ten baskebtall fan out there knows head coach Tom Izzo values strong defensive play.

Along with Michigan State, Kohler had offers from fellow Big Ten schools including Illinois, Iowa, and Nebraska, along with fellow power six teams such as Texas Tech, Kansas, Oklahoma, USC, Utah, Arizona, UCLA, and Baylor, among others.

Kohler is the second commit in Izzo’s 2022 class, joining four-star point guard commit Tre Holloman.
