Earlier this week, the Wisconsin Badgers got some exciting news as 2022 guard Connor Essegian announced that he would be committing to the program. Essegian joins a Wisconsin program that is set to transition to a new era under Greg Gard.

"The culture that they have built there being a winning program is something that I wanted to be a part of. I am looking forward to competing for championships."

Essegian comes out of Albion, Indiana and is rated as a three-star prospect and one of the best prospects in the State of Indiana by 247Sports. The recruiting site lists him at 6-foot-4 and 180 pounds and identifies him as a key prospect in the 2022 recruiting cycle. Along with Wisconsin, he also had offers from Belmont, Butler, Creighton, and Wake Forest among others.
It’s hard to project how Essegian will fit with Wisconsin’s roster considering the uncertainties across college basketball and in Madison. We still have to see how player eligibility sorts out and how the young Badgers perform this season. However, don’t be surprised if he grabs a reserve role as a freshman.
Greg Gard and his staff likely aren’t done with the 2022 cycle, but Badger fans have to be excited about where things sit at the moment.
