The 2021 NBA Draft took place on Thursday night and Joe Wieskamp of the Iowa Hawkeyes was fortunate enough to hear his name called. He was selected at No. 41 by the San Antonio Spurs.

Wieskamp played three seasons in Iowa City, putting together an impressive career for the Hawkeyes He played in 97 total games and averaged an impressive 29.3 minutes, 14.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game in his final year with the program. He likewise helped Iowa earn a two seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament and consistently elite national rankings all season long.

It’s hard to tell how Wieskamp might fit in with the Spurs given some of the team’s ongoing change. However, he could be a nice boost off the bench and should be a viable three-point threat. Fans will certainly be hoping he can grow into a starting role. We’ll have to see how things shake out next season and beyond.
