The 2021 NBA Draft took place on Thursday night and Ayo Dosunmu of the Illinois Fighting Illini was fortunate enough to hear his name called. He was selected at No. 38 by the Chicago Bulls.

Dosunmu played three seasons in Champaign, putting together one of the better careers in Illinois basketball history. He played in 90 total games and averaged an impressive 35.1 minutes, 20.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists in his final season with Illinois. He likewise helped lead the program to a one seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament and the 2021 Big Ten Tournament.

Chicago should be an interesting landing spot for Dosunmu. The Bulls haven’t been good in years, but do have a team with fight and a young core. Fans will certainly be hoping Dosunmu can be the missing piece in a mixed backcourt. We’ll have to see how things shake out next season and beyond.
