McDaniel is listed at 5-foot-9 and 145 pounds and is rated as a four-star prospect and the four-best player in the state of Virginia in the 2022 class by 247Sports. He comes out of Fairfax and projects as a top 100 prospect. Along with Michigan, McDaniel also had attention from Bryant, Florida, George Mason, and UConn among others.
While McDaniel is still more than a year away from coming to Ann Arbor, it’s easy to see his skillset on display. He’s a nice shooter and is equally dangerous in transitioning, finding others and distributing down low. His size will certainly be a limitation at the next level, but the basketball IQ should make up for any physical deficits.
As noted above, McDaniel is Michigan’s first commitment in the 2022 recruiting class. However, he’s just the latest in quite a recent haul for Howard on the recruiting trail. Michigan landed the nation’s top class in the 2021 cycle and McDaniel is the 11th prospect ranked in the top 115 for Michigan since 2019. And that’s not even to mention Michigan’s marquee transfer pickups and the players still on the board in the 2022 cycle.
How McDaniel will perform in Ann Arbor is unknown, but Howard and fans have to be excited about what’s to come.
