Penn State got some disappointing news this week as fans learned guard DJ Gordon would be entering the transfer portal. This loss was to be expected with the coaching change, but will clear out the depth chart even further.

Tons of potential here as an athletic guard that spaces the floor from distance. pic.twitter.com/fnBJt6aKD1
Gordon arrived at Penn State last fall and contributed little in his first season, playing in six total games and averaging less than a point per game. However, his recruiting profile was relatively solid as he ranked as a three-star prospect and the 11th best player in Pennsylvania in the 2020 recruiting class.
Given the massive roster turnover for the Nittany Lions this offseason, it’s hard to say how much Gordon’s departure could impact the team. He seemed to be in line for more playing time with the team’s lack of experience, but can anybody really say for sure? He had minimal contributions and there’s little debating Penn State is going to bring in a handful of new additions before fall. Having a depth option like Gordon would have been nice, though. We’ll have to stay tuned to see how things sort out.
