Bates comes out of Brandenton, Florida and is currently rated as a four-star prospect and a top 50 player in the country by 247Sports. He is currently listed at 6-foot-4 and 175 pounds by the recruiting site. Along with Indiana, he had offers from Alabama, Creighton, and Texas among others.
Perhaps the strongest parts of Bates’ game are his length and athleticism. He can really get after it at both ends of the court. Bates can also do enough damage from deep to keep opponents honest and how he develops there at the next level will be key to watch.
With his addition, Indiana’s 2021 recruiting class is now ranked 35th nationally. The Hoosiers are bringing in multiple true freshmen along with some key transfer additions. Fans have to be excited about how the class could look in the months ahead.
