Iowa got some problematic news today when sophomore guard CJ Fredrick confirmed that he was entering the transfer portal.

In his sophomore season the 6’3” guard averaged 7.5 points and 1.9 assists per game in about 25 minutes per night. His numbers were a bit down from his freshman season, but part of that had to do with some injury issues that plagued Fredrick throughout the season. Even with the injury issues he still averaged 47.4% from three and was set to potentially have an expanded role next season.
The departure of Fredrick could leave the Hawkeyes looking pretty thin next year when it comes to starting experience. Star Luka Garza is heading to the NBA Draft, Joe Wieskamp is at least testing the draft process and Jordan Bohannon has yet to officially state if he’s returning for his sixth year of eligibility. The team also lost Jack Nunge, who transferred out to Xavier.
For what it’s worth, there have also been rumors circulating that Fredrick might end up at Kentucky.
crazy rumor out of iowa has cj fredrick transferring home from iowa and resurfacing at kentucky. have to see how this one plays out.

When everything is said and done the Hawkeyes are likely going to be incredibly young in the backcourt next season.
