2021 4-Star Guard Brandin Podziemski Commits to Illinois

NCAA Basketball: Big Ten Conference Tournament-Illinois vs Iowa Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

Illinois got some good news this week when Brandin Podziemski announced that he was committing to the Illini.

The 6’5” Wisconsin native is ranked by 247Sports as the 72nd best recruit in the 2021 recruiting class, as well as the 16th best shooting guard. Podziemski had offers from a number of major programs including Arizona State, Kansas, Kentucky and Nebraska. Podziemski joins a class that also includes four-star guard Luke Goode and three-star forward Ramses Melendez.

As a senior Podziemski averaged 35.1 points per game while shooting 43.4% from three. He has shown the ability to shoot effectively from deep as well as handle the ball efficiently. Podziemski has also shown the ability to play both with and off the ball, creating opportunities for his teammates as well as making his own scoring opportunities.

“I’m going to the University of Illinois,” Podziemski said to 247Sports. “Most importantly it is the fit within the program. Also the relationships that I’ve been able to build with not only the coaches but all of the players that are already there and those who are coming in with my class. The fit and opportunity to play right away is a big key.”

Podziemski should have the opportunity to make an early impact for Illinois with the departure of Ayo Dosunmu and several other players who have entered the transfer portal. The Illini will likely need some perimeter shooting, something Podziemski should be able to provide.
