Melendez comes out of Kissimmee, Florida and is currently rated as a four-star prospect and the 97th best payer in the 2021 recruiting class by 247Sports. The recruiting site also lists him at 6-foot-7 and 190 pounds and there’s little debating he projects as one of the better players in the class. Along with Illinois, he also has offers from programs including Alabama, DePaul, Florida Atlantic, and Georgia Tech among others.
With this addition, Illinois’ 2022 recruiting class now has two commitments and is rated 46th nationally. Luke Goode is the other commitment, who’s a four-star out of Fort Wayne, Indiana and one of the better Illini commits over the last few years. Underwood and his staff still have their work cut out for the 2021 class, but Illini fans have to be excited about bringing Melendez into the fold.
