The Big Ten released its weekly award winners for week 12 of the regular season and two teams split the awards. Iowa’s Joe Wieskamp was named Big Ten Player of the Week and Michigan’s Hunter Dickinson was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Wieskamp had quite a performance this week, averaging 23.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in Iowa’s wins over Rutgers and Michigan State. The two wins marked Iowa’s first winning streak in nearly a month. Both wins came by double-digits. This is the first time he’s earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors in his career.
The same can be said for Dickinson, who continues to put up massive numbers for the Wolverines. He finished with 11 points and 15 rebounds in Michigan’s win over Wisconsin on Sunday, including the key offensive rebound to complete the team’s comeback win. This is already the sixth time he’s earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors in his career. He’s now one short of Michigan legend Trey Burke for the program’s all-time record in this regard.
Congratulations are in order for both players. Don’t be surprised if these two show back up on this list given how they have played to date.
