The Big Ten released its weekly award winners for week 10 of the regular season and two teams split the awards. Illinois’ Ayo Dosunmu was named Big Ten Player of the Week and Purdue’s Brandon Newman was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Dosunmu had a memorable performance this week, scoring 25 points in the team’s marquee win over Iowa on Friday night. It was Illinois’ best win since beating a top five Michigan team in December of 2019. This is the fourth time he’s earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors in his career.
Meanwhile, Newman had a great game as well with 29 points, six rebounds, and two steals in Purdue’s win over Minnesota on Saturday. Notably, his 29 points marked the fourth-most for a Purdue freshman in program history and second-most in Mackey Arena. This is the second time he’s earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors in his career.
Congratulations are in order for both players. Don’t be surprised if these two show back up on this list given how they have played to date.
