Earlier this week, Iowa fans got some exciting news as 2022 prospect Owen Freeman announced that he would be committing to the Iowa Hawkeyes. This is great news for head coach Fran McCaffery and his staff.
Three days after his visit to Iowa, the Hawkeyes have officially landed 6-10 power forward Owen Freeman (@_OwenFreeman) from Bradley Bourbonnais in Illinois.

Freeman is the first men's basketball commit for 2023 to join the Hawkeyes.https://t.co/MUSibbH4Yb
Freeman comes out of Bradley, Illinois and is largely unrated by the national scouting services. However, he attracted some serious midwestern attention and is listed at 6-foot-9 and 220 pounds by 247Sports. Along with Iowa, he also had offers from Butler, Illinois, Indiana, Marquette, Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue, and Wisconsin among others.
He is now Iowa’s lone commitment in the program’s 2023 recruiting class, but that will likely change in the coming months. Fans will hope Freeman can be the first piece and continue Iowa’s recent momentum on the recruiting trail after solid success in 2021 and 2022. However, we will have to wait and see as it’s still very much in the air. Either way, fans have to be excited to bring him into the fold now.
