David Mutaf To Transfer From Minnesota

The Gophers are losing a guard.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers got some tough news this week as fans learned the program would be losing guard David Mutaf to transfer after the season. He only played in three games this season, but had plenty of upside long-term.

Mutaf arrived on campus this season as a largely unheralded recruit. He was rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports and as one of the top prospects out of Turkey in the 2020 cycle. However, most thought he had a lot of upside and could develop with a few years under his belt.

During this season, he’s seen action in three total games. Most of this was garbage time when the game was already over. Still, he could have gotten more playing time in the years ahead. Fans will hope players like Tre’ Williams and Jamal Mashburn will take over in Mutaf’s place. We will have to see what Pitino can find out of the new faces.
