Wisconsin at Penn State Game Postponed

Tough news for Badger and Nittany Lion fans.

NCAA Basketball: Penn State at Iowa Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

The Wisconsin Badgers and Penn State Nittany Lions got some tough news this week as the programs learned their matchup on Sunday would not be going forward as scheduled. The athletic departments put out releases suggesting the cancellation was due to COVID-19 protocols.

They stated as follows:

MADISON, Wis. – The men’s basketball game between Wisconsin and Penn State, scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 3, is being postponed, as mutually agreed upon by both teams due to health and safety concerns. The two schools will work with the Big Ten Conference to reschedule the game.

The Badgers will be off on Sunday before resuming practice on Monday ahead of their game Thursday against Indiana at the Kohl Center.

And:

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men’s basketball game vs. Wisconsin, scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 3, has been postponed. The decision was mutually agreed upon out of an abundance of caution surrounding the health and safety of the participants, and the institutions will work with the Big Ten Conference to identify rescheduling options.

This is the first Big Ten conference game that’s officially been postponed this season due to COVID-19 related concerns, but it likely won’t be the last. Penn State is coming off a tough loss to Indiana earlier this week and Wisconsin is coming off a huge win over arch-rival Minnesota on Thursday. Unfortunately, we won’t get to see how these two teams would have played this weekend.

BTPowerhouse will continue to post updates on this game as more is learned.
