The Big Ten released its weekly award winners for week eight of the regular season and two teams split the awards. Minnesota’s Liam Robbins and Purdue’s Trevion Williams were named Co-Big Ten Players of the Week and Purdue’s Brandon Newman was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Robbins had a fantastic performance this week. The Gopher big man led the way for Minnesota in the team’s win over Michigan on Saturday, finishing with an impressive 22 points and eight rebounds. This is the second time he’s earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors. Williams also had quite a week, averaging 17.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in wins over Indiana and Penn State. He last earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors in January of 2020.
Meanwhile, Newman also made a mark for the Boilermakers, averaging 12.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks in Purdue’s wins over Indiana and Penn State. He finished with 13 points and five rebounds in the win over Penn State. This is the first time he’s earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors in his career.
Congratulations are in order for both players. Don’t be surprised if these two show back up on this list given how they have played to date.
