The Maryland Terrapins surprised three-year walk-on Reese Mona with a scholarship earlier this week in a surprise Zoom call announcement with Mona, coach Mark Turgeon, and the rest of the Terrapin basketball team.

Take a look at the surprise scholarship announcement below.

Mona has been a good soldier in the Terrapin program since the beginning. Mona had a scholarship offer from Wagner coming out of high school, but joined the hometown Terrapins and has appeared in 32 games throughout his career.

Mona called the surprise a “surreal moment I’ll never forget.” Below, Turgeon explains the decision to give Mona a scholarship for the season.

Reese Mona has earned his scholarship in every way and I am so happy to reward him for his senior season,” Turgeon said. “Over the past three seasons, he has made our entire program better due to his tireless work ethic and positive attitude. Reese is incredibly deserving of this scholarship and I am thrilled for him and his family.”

The Terrapins still have one open scholarship for the upcoming season.
