According to sources it looks like Rutgers will be participating in the 2020 Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden this fall.
Sources: The Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden expected to feature the following matchups this December:
— Jeff Goodman (@GoodmanHoops) May 7, 2020
- No. 1 Baylor vs. No. 15 Rutgers
- No. 3 Gonzaga vs. No. 20 Tennessee
The Jimmy V Classic is an annual event organized by ESPN to raise money and awareness for cancer research. The event, named after head coach Jim Valvano, has taken place annually since 1995. Per Jeff Goodman the Scarlet Knights will be playing against Baylor, while Gonzaga and Tennessee will be the other game. Indiana was the last team to play in the event, beating Connecticut last year 57-54.
Rutgers game against Baylor is currently set to be one of two games they’ll play at Madison Square Garden, with the team also set to play Michigan State at the Garden at the end of January.
With the addition of Baylor it looks like Rutgers should have a pretty solid non-conference schedule. Besides the ACC-Big Ten Challenge and potentially the Gavitt Games, Rutgers is expected to continue their annual in-state rivalry series with Seton Hall.
