Earlier this week, the Ohio State Buckeyes got some exciting news as Utah State transfer Abel Porter announced he would be joining the program next season. Porter announced the move publicly on Twitter.

During his time at Utah State, Porter played extensively for the Aggies. He played in a total of 95 games and averaged 5.6 points and 3.2 assists per game last season. Porter wasn’t a star, but provided valuable minutes off the bench. He also made some decent offensive contributions and was consistently able to get to the free throw line.
Porter will now join an Ohio State roster that’s in pretty solid position. The Buckeyes were one of the better teams in the Big Ten last season and the addition of Porter should help address some of the team’s backcourt issues. Ohio State is set to return players like CJ Walker and Duane Washington and is also adding Seth Towns upfront.
The good news is Porter will be immediately eligible as a graduate transfer. Unfortunately, he will only have one year of eligibility remaining. It should be fun to see how he performs in Columbus.
