Rutgers landed a key 2021 pickup.

Earlier this week, Rutgers got some good news as fans learned 2021 guard Jaden Jones would be committing to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights over numerous other programs. It was exciting news for Steve Pikiell and his staff as the program continues to build momentum.

Jones is listed at 6-foot-7 and 190 pounds and comes out of Saint Louis, Missouri. He is rated as a four-star prospect and the second-best player in the state by 247Sports. Along with Rutgers, he also had offers from Alabama, Arizona, LSU, San Diego State, and USC among others.

Although Jones is the first member of Rutgers’ 2021 recruiting class, he’s certainly a significant commitment. Since Pikiell arrived on campus, Rutgers has gradually been picking up momentum. However, we haven’t seen a ton of translation to the recruiting trail yet. Rutgers has largely relied on under recruited guys and “diamond in the rough” types.

However, Jones could change things. High-profile recruits like to play with other high-profile recruits. It will be interesting to see if Jones’ commitment can get the ball rolling. We’ll have to stay tuned to see how that all sorts out. Either way, it’s an exciting time to be a fan of the Scarlet Knights.
