3/4 Big Ten Preview: Indiana vs Minnesota

Preview Wednesday night’s action for the Big Ten.

NCAA Basketball: Indiana at Minnesota David Berding-USA TODAY Sports

The Big Ten has two games on Wednesday night and both should be significant for the league’s postseason chances. Indiana hosts Minnesota in the early game and the Badgers will hope to hold serve against Northwestern in the late game.

So, let’s take a look at what’s on the slate tonight.

Game of the Day:

-Minnesota Golden Gophers at Indiana Hoosiers

  • Time/TV: 7:00PM ET (BTN)
  • KenPom Spread: Indiana (-2)

The last time these teams met, it felt like an elimination game. Indiana and Minnesota were teetering on the NCAA bubble ledge and it was hard to see the loser of that matchup reviving their resume and season. All told, Indiana ended up scoring a great win in Minneapolis and that early prediction held suit. The Gophers are now well outside the bubble, while Indiana now seems just a win or two away from locking up an NCAA bid.

For Indiana, this is a “must win” game. A beatable opponent at home with that elusive 19th win hanging in the balance. If the Hoosiers come out on top, they’ll have a strong argument to be included on Selection Sunday. A loss here and Indiana would really have some work to do. If Archie Miller hopes to hold off the skeptics, this needs to be a win. For Minnesota, this is a chance to improve the team’s Big Ten Tournament seeding and momentum.

The matchup to watch is going to be Minnesota’s Daniel Oturu against Indiana’s frontcourt down low. Whoever wins there probably comes out on top.

  • Pick Against the Spread: Indiana

The Rest:

-Northwestern Wildcats at No. 24 Wisconsin Badgers

  • Time/TV: 9:00PM ET (BTN)
  • KenPom Spread: Wisconsin (-14)

This game probably isn’t going to set any ratings records on Wednesday night, but it’s an important one for the Badgers and the team’s hopes moving forward. Wisconsin probably needs just one win to remove all doubt about its NCAA hopes and a victory over the Wildcats would do just that. Northwestern is hoping to extend its momentum after knocking off Nebraska on the road on Sunday. Expect Wisconsin by a decent margin.

  • Pick Against the Spread: Northwestern
