According to multiple reports, the Northwestern Wildcats lost an upperclassmen recently as Tino Malnati transferred from the program. He was honored on senior day, so this is something most likely saw coming. Nonetheless, it was newsworthy and confirmed something many had believed would happen for quite some time.
Malnati initially arrived on campus with mixed expectations. He was a walk-on that few thought would contribute in any substantial way on the court. And while he never turned into a star player, he provided plenty of leadership and did see action in 20 games. He also got a great sendoff as Northwestern knocked off Penn State in its final regular season game.
The good news for fans is that Northwestern has plenty of depth behind Malnati in the backcourt going forward. Boo Buie will return after a solid freshman season and the Wildcats are poised to add more depth with the program’s 2020 class as well. Fans will also likely get to see Malnati some next season as he still has eligibility remaining.
