The Big Ten released its weekly award winners for Week 17 of the regular season and Michigan State and Michigan ended up splitting the awards. Cassius Winston was named Big Ten Player of the Week and Franz Wagner was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Winston had a huge week for the Spartans, leading Michigan State to wins over Iowa and Maryland in just a few days. He averaged an impressive 20.0 points, 7.5 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per game in the team’s two wins. This is the second time he’s earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors this season and the seventh time in his career.
Similarly, Wagner also had a big week, despite some tough results for Michigan. The wing averaged 17.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game and had 18 points and 10 rebounds in the team’s loss against Ohio State on Sunday. This is the third time Wagner has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week during his career.
Congratulations are in order for both players. Don’t be surprised if these two show back up on this list given how they have played to date.
