Maryland and Michigan Split Week 13 Big Ten Honors

Two Big Ten teams split the Big Ten weekly awards.

The Big Ten released its weekly award winners for Week 13 of the regular season and Maryland and Michigan ended up splitting the awards. Anthony Cowan was named Big Ten Player of the Week and Franz Wagner was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

Cowan had an impressive week for the Terps, scoring 31 points in the team’s win over Iowa at home on Thursday night. The win pushed Maryland to 17-4 overall and maintained the team’s undefeated record at home. This is the second time he’s earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors during his career.

Similarly, Wagner also had a big week. He averaged 18 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game in Michigan’s wins over Nebraska and Rutgers. The two wins snapped a recent skid for the Wolverines and got the team back in the picture for the NCAA Tournament moving forward. This is the first time Wagner has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week during his career.

Congratulations are in order for both players. Don’t be surprised if these two show back up on this list given how they have played to date.
