Earlier this week, the Maryland Terrapins got some good news as the program got another quality addition to its 2020 recruiting class in the way of guard Aquan Smart. He joins what is an interesting of incoming prospects for head coach Mark Turgeon.

Smart is the second addition to the 2020 class, joining Marcus Dockery as the only other Terp commit. https://t.co/aaH5dRpfD7
Smart comes out of Skokie, Illinois and is rated as a three-star by 247Sports. The site also lists him as a combo guard and as a top 10 in-state prospect for the cycle. Smart is listed at 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds. Other schools who pursued Smart included Chicago State, Milwaukee, and Siena among others.
Now, let’s be clear. Smart is not an elite prospect that turned down a variety of blue chip opportunities to come to Maryland. However, he is set to join what figures to be a really deep and experienced roster next season. Anthony Cowan will have graduated, but everyone else in the backcourt projects to be back, at least on paper. My guess is Turgeon will end up hitting the transfer market as well before all is said and done. With all of that in mind, Smart’s addition makes a lot of sense. And Turgeon has shown a knack for hitting on these types of prospects in the past.
With his addition, Maryland now has two prospects in its 2020 recruiting class. And while no one can be sure how Smart will progress once he arrives at Maryland, Terp fans should be excited about adding another talented piece to the roster.
