The AP and USA Today Coaches’ polls were released earlier this week for Week 17 of the season and six Big Ten teams were fortunate enough to make the cut. What was arguably even more impressive is that two other teams received votes in both weekly polls. All told, it was an encouraging performance for the Big Ten.
Here is where the Big Ten landed:
Week 17 AP Poll:
- No. 9 - Maryland
- No. 16 - Penn State
- No. 18 - Iowa
- No. 19 - Michigan
- No. 23 - Ohio State
- No. 24 - Michigan State
- Receiving Votes: Illinois, Wisconsin
Week 17 USA Today Coaches’ Poll
- No. 8 - Maryland
- No. 14 - Penn State
- No. 17 - Iowa
- No. 22 - Michigan
- No. 23 - Ohio State
- No. 24 - Michigan State
- Receiving Votes: Illinois, Wisconsin
The Big Ten still isn’t polling the way it did early in the season, but the rise of Maryland and Penn State over the last month or so has been really impressive. And with other teams like Michigan and Ohio State gaining momentum, the league should be in good shape entering March. We’ll have to stay tuned to see how things shake out.
