Maryland and Michigan Split Week 15 Big Ten Honors

Two Big Ten teams split the Big Ten weekly awards.

The Big Ten released its weekly award winners for Week 15 of the regular season and Maryland and Michigan ended up splitting the awards. Anthony Cowan was named Big Ten Player of the Week and Franz Wagner was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

Cowan had quite a week for the Terps, leading Maryland to wins over Nebraska and Michigan State and averaging 18.5 points and six assists per game. He was particularly impressive in the team’s win in East Lansing on Saturday, as he hit shot after shot down the stretch. This is the third time he’s earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors during his career.

Similarly, Wagner also had a big week. The forward averaged 10.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and two assists per game and shot 50 percent from the field in Michigan’s wins over Northwestern and Indiana. He also had 16 points in the team’s impressive win against the Hoosiers on Sunday. This is the second time Wagner has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week during his career.

Congratulations are in order for both players. Don’t be surprised if these two show back up on this list given how they have played to date.
