The Big Ten released its weekly award winners for the opening week of the regular season and two teams ended up splitting the awards. Indiana’s Trayce Jackson-Davis was named Big Ten Player of the Week and Michigan’s Hunter Dickinson was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Jackson-Davis returned to Bloomington this offseason to much excitement and Hoosier fans are expecting some big things out of him this season. And so far, he’s lived up to that hype. He was outstanding during the season opener and followed that up with quite a performance this week, averaging 20.0 points and 5.7 rebounds in Indiana’s trip to the Maui Invitational. Should Indiana continue its success, he’s certainly going to be leading things. This is the first time Jackson-Davis has been named Big Ten Player of the Week during his career.
Dickinson also had a big week. The Wolverine big man came up huge in the team’s wins against Ball State and Central Florida, averaging 13.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, and one block. This is the first time Dickinson has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week during his career. However, it doesn’t seem like it will be the last.
Congratulations are in order for both players. Don’t be surprised if these two show back up on this list given how they have played to date.
