12/6 Big Ten Preview: PSU Hosts Seton Hall

Preview all of Sunday’s Big Ten action.

NCAA Basketball: VCU at Penn State Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

The Big Ten has a handful of interesting games on Sunday, including two matchups against bigger conference opponents with Michigan facing Central Florida and Penn State facing Seton Hall. It should be a lot of fun.

Let’s take a look at the schedule.

Game of the Day:

-Seton Hall Musketeers at Penn State Nittany Lions

  • Time/TV: 8:00PM ET (BTN)
  • KenPom Spread: Penn State by 2

After a dramatic win over VCU on Wednesday, Nittany Lion fans are feeling great about the team, Interim Head Coach Jim Ferry, and whether things could be heading this season. However, things will get even more challenging on Sunday as Penn State hosts a pretty solid Seton Hall team looking to rebound after two tough outings.

This game is probably going to come down to the frontcourt. There’s going to be a lot of pressure on Penn State to slow down Sandro Mamukelashvili and Tyrese Samuel, who lead a pretty solid rebounding group. Seton Hall also currently ranks 39th nationally in three-point percentage. If Penn State gets some good play out of Seth Lundy and John Harrar, this should be a win.

  • Pick Against The Spread: Penn State

The Rest:

-Central Florida Knights at Michigan Wolverines

  • Time/TV: 4:00 PM ET (BTN)
  • KenPom Spread: Michigan by 11

It’s been a pretty wild start to the season so far for Michigan. The team beat a solid Bowling Green squad, followed that up by struggling against Oakland, and then rebounded with a 19-point win against Ball State on Wednesday. Michigan will now have its hands full with a UCF team just outside the top 100 on KenPom.

A lot of this game is going to come down to the frontcourt. Dre Fuller and CJ Walker have been really good for UCF up there so far this season. There’s going to be a lot of pressure on Hunter Dickinson and Isaiah Livers to play well. UCF has also played some great defense this year, forcing a variety of turnovers. Michigan needs to avoid mistakes offensively, do work in transition, and get a good performance from Mike Smith.

  • Pick Against The Spread: UCF

-Western Michigan Broncos at Michigan State Spartans

  • Time/TV: 2:00 PM ET (BTN)
  • KenPom Spread: Michigan State by 12

Like their in-state rivals, Michigan State’s had quite a start to the season. The team has impressed in its games against marquee opponents, but has left a lot to be desired against the “easier” teams on its slate, including a rough outing against Detroit on Friday. Spartan fans will hope that gets corrected on Sunday against a weak Western Michigan squad. Keep an eye on the battle between B Artis White and Rocket Watts in the backcourt.

  • Pick Against The Spread: Michigan State

Cancelled/Postponed:

-Florida A&M Rattlers at Nebraska Cornhuskers

This would have been a nice warm up for the Big Ten-ACC Challenge. Instead, Nebraska will now prepare for a game against Georgia Tech at home on Wednesday.

Record Against The Spread: 5-3-2
