The Big Ten only had one game on Thursday night, but it featured quite a performance for Iowa and Luka Garza. The team scored a dominant win to move to 3-0 on the season and further build Garza’s national profile.
Let’s take a look at what happened.
Game of the Night:
-No. 3 Iowa Hawkeyes 99, Western Illinois Leathernecks 58
This looked like an unbalanced game on paper and it lived up to the billing. Western Illinois entered the game as a question mark, not having played a game yet this season. Nonetheless, the Leathernecks were 345th on KenPom before tip, more than 300 spots behind the Hawkeyes. As such, few thought it would be competitive.
And just a few minutes in, Iowa took a double-digit lead and never looked back. The Hawkeyes would go on to grab a dominant 99-58 win to improve to 3-0 on the season. Luka Garza led the way with 35 points and 10 rebounds. This is his third straight game with at least 26 points so far this season. A truly incredible achievement.
Iowa will now prepare for its first truly challenging game of the season next Tuesday at home against North Carolina as part of the Big Ten-ACC Challenge. The Hawkeyes figure to be narrow favorites before tip. It figures to be one of the best games of the week nationally.
