The Big Ten only had one game on Thursday, featuring Nebraska hosting an overmatched Doane. The game largely lived up to expectations, with the Huskers cruised to a sizable victory to get back on track.
Let’s take a look at what happened.
Game of the Night:
-Nebraska Cornhuskers 110, Doane Tigers 64
After two tough outings for the Huskers, it must have been nice to get back home and run all over a thoroughly overmatched Doane team. Nebraska was a sizable favorite before tip and took care of business, scoring 1.34 points per possession on the night. Dalano Banton led the way with a triple-double of 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists.
The win pushes Nebraska to 4-3 overall with non-conference play now wrapped up. Things haven’t gone as well as fans might have hoped a few weeks ago, but the advanced stats are still encouraging. The Huskers now sit 119th on KenPom with the win. And while that might not seem like good news, it’s 43 spots higher than last year’s team.
Nebraska will now prepare for a brutal opening to Big Ten play with Wisconsin on the road next Tuesday and Michigan at home on Christmas Day. It’s going to be an uphill battle for the Huskers in both of those games, but an upset would go a long way toward building the program for the months and years to come.
