12/10 Big Ten Recap: Minnesota Beats UMKC

Recap all the Big Ten action from Thursday.

NCAA Basketball: Boston College at Minnesota Harrison Barden-USA TODAY Sports

After wild days on Wednesday and Thursday, things were substantially calmer for the Big Ten on Thursday with only one game. Minnesota hosted a thoroughly overmatched UMKC squad and was able to grab a win.

Let’s take a look at what happened.

Game of the Night:

-Minnesota Golden Gophers 90, UMKC Kangaroos 61

This one didn’t project to be all that close and it lived up to the hype (or lackthereof). Minnesota got up 12 by halftime and only extended its lead from there. Liam Robbins had a particularly good night, finishing with 27 points, nine rebounds, and two assists. Marcus Carr also finished with 15 points. Eventually, Minnesota grabbed a 90-61 win to improve to 6-0 on the young season.

Things will now get substantially more difficult for the Gophers moving forward. Minnesota will travel to face Illinois on the road on Tuesday and follow that up with a Saint Louis team ranked in the top 40 on KenPom on Sunday. Gopher fans should hope for a 1-1 performance during those two games.
