Earlier week, the Nebraska Cornhuskers got some great news as elite prospect Bryce McGowens committed to the program. He’s easily the biggest pickup of Fred Hoiberg’s brief tenure in Lincoln and could signal some big things to come.

McGowens comes out of Greenville, South Carolina and is rated as a five-star prospect and the top player in the state by 247Sports. The recruiting site also lists him at 6-foot-6 and 175 pounds and as the 25th best player in the 2021 cycle. Along with Nebraska, he also had offers from Clemson, Florida, Florida State, and Georgia among others.

Obviously, this is a massive pickup for Hoiberg and staff. McGowens is not only Nebraska’s highest rated commit in the program’s 2021 recruiting class, but the program’s top commit in the online recruiting era, which dates back to the early 2000s. McGowens edged out Glynn Watson, who was part of Nebraska’s 2015 class. Fans will hope this is a sign of things to come for Hoiberg in Lincoln and a start of the positive momentum on the recruiting trail.

How McGowens will perform in Lincoln is unknown, but Hoiberg and fans have to be excited about what’s to come.
