Ohio State commit Meechie Johnson was set to join the Buckeyes in 2021 but will now enroll at Ohio State a bit earlier than originally anticipated.
Ohio State commit Meechie Johnson just announced that he's reclassifying to 2020 to play for Ohio State this season. Will enroll later this year.

Johnson was set to join the Buckeyes in 2021 but will graduate from high school early and enroll at Ohio State in December. Johnson is a 6’2” guard from Garfield Heights that is listed by 247Sports as the 92nd best recruit and second best from Ohio.
The now 2020 commit joins a pair of three-star recruits in guard Eugene Brown III and center Zed Key, as well transfer Seth Towns. Also of note is point guard Abel Porter, a transfer from Utah State, was recently not medically cleared and will not be playing with Ohio State, opening up a spot for Johnson in the process as Ohio State can use another guard in the backcourt.
Johnson’s early enrollment should allow him to be eligible in January around the beginning of conference play. And with the NCAA announcing that this season will not count against the eligibility of student-athletes, Johnson doesn’t lose much from enrolling early.
