Earlier this week, the Michigan Wolverines got some exciting news as the program learned five-star and top 10 prospect Caleb Houstan would be committing to the program. This is the top rated commitment of Juwan Howard’s short stint at Michigan.
Massive news for Juwan Howard and company as 2021 five-star forward Caleb Houstan commits to #GoBlue; Wolverines currently have #1 class in 2021 according to 247Sports Composite: https://t.co/XIXgCIsWBr pic.twitter.com/b2SPqnypX2— Steve Lorenz (@TremendousUM) October 30, 2020
Houstan comes out of Montverde, Florida and is rated as as five-star prospect, the 8th best prospect in the 2021 recruiting class, and the top player in Florida for the year per 247Sports. The recruiting site also lists him at 6-foot-8 and 203 pounds. Along with Michigan, Houstan had offers from Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Duke, Maryland, Michigan State, and Tennessee among others.
While Houstan is still more than a year away from arriving on a college campus, his diverse skillset is apparent. He can shoot the ball from deep, is an impressive passer given his size, and can do more than enough on the boards and the defensive end to contribute there as well. His athleticism doesn’t jump off the screen when he plays, but there’s enough there when combined with his size and strength to think he can contribute significantly at the college level.
Houstan is Michigan’s fifth commitment in the 2021 recruiting class. The Wolverines now have the top rated class nationally by 247Sports and a group that features three top 70 prospects, four top 125 prospects, and fifth in the top 160. By any evaluation, this is setting up to be a fantastic class for Michigan. And it should follow up on a 2020 class that ranked atop the Big Ten as well. Wolverine fans have to be pleased.
How Houstan will perform in Ann Arbor is unknown, but Howard and fans have to be excited about what’s to come.
