With the upcoming college basketball season just over a month away we’ll start seeing more preseason predictions and coverage. Earlier this week Jon Rothstein posted his preseason All-American teams, with several Big Ten Players making the cut.
1st Team
- Ayo Dosunmu (Illinois)
- Luka Garza (Iowa)
- Jared Butler (Baylor)

- Cade Cunningham (Oklahoma State)
2nd Team
- Marcus Zegarowski (Creighton)
- Collin Gillespie (Villanova)
- Sam Hauser (Virginia)

- Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (Villanova)
3rd Team
- Trayce Jackson-Davis (Indiana)
- Scottie Barnes (Florida State)
- Corey Kispert (Gonzaga)
- Chris Smith (UCLA)
- Evan Mobley (USC)
The inclusion of Ayo Dosunmu and Luka Garza in the first team isn’t a surprise as both look primed for a big season in 2020-21. Each player flirted with the NBA Draft before deciding to return for the upcoming season. Rothstein had the following to say about each player.
Ayo Dosunmu
Dosunmu shocked everyone when he opted to return to Champaign for his junior season. There’s not a more complete guard in the sport. Armed with good size at 6-5, Dosunmu averaged 16.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists last year as a sophomore while shooting 48.4 percent from the field.
Luka Garza
What can Garza do for an encore? Take Iowa to the Final Four for the first time since 1980. The 6-11 big man averaged 23.9 points and 9.8 rebounds last season in a league that was loaded with quality big men. He’s already cemented to go down as one of the best players in the history of the Hawkeyes’ program.
