Earlier this week, the Minnesota Golden Gophers got some exciting news as 2021 prospect Kenny Pohto announced he would be committing to the program. He joins what is starting to become an interesting 2021 class for Richard Pitino and staff.
Pohto comes out of Wichita, Kansas and is rated as a three-star prospect and the fourth-best player in the state by 247Sports. The recruiting site also lists him at 6-foot-11 and 240 pounds. Along with Minnesota, he had an offer from Nebraska and attention from Wichita State among others. Pohto is the second pickup in Minnesota’s 2021 class.
There’s little debating Pohto will require some time before he can be a reliable contributor for the Gophers, but the roster should help him there. Minnesota has multiple big men on the roster ahead of Pohto, which should give him some time to develop. Liam Robbins arrives this year and Sam Freeman and Martice Mitchell should be improving as well.
Pitino and his staff still have their work cut out to build the roster moving forward, but Gopher fans have to be excited about bringing Pohto into the fold.
