The AP and USA Today Coaches’ polls were released earlier this week for Week 13 of the season and six Big Ten teams were fortunate enough to make the cut. What was arguably even more impressive is that four other teams received votes in the AP Poll. All told, it was an encouraging performance for the Big Ten.

Here is where the Big Ten landed:

Week 13 AP Poll:

  • No. 14 - Michigan State
  • No. 15 - Maryland
  • No. 18 - Iowa
  • No. 19 - Illinois
  • No. 24 - Penn State
  • No. 25 - Rutgers
  • Receiving Votes: Ohio State, Indiana, Purdue, Wisconsin

Week 13 USA Today Coaches’ Poll

  • No. 14 - Michigan State
  • No. 15 - Maryland
  • No. 18 - Iowa
  • No. 19 - Illinois
  • No. 23 - Penn State
  • No. 25 - Rutgers
  • Receiving Votes: Ohio State, Indiana

While it was disappointing to see teams like Michigan continue to fall in the receiving votes category, the Big Ten still remains in great position in the polls. Six teams landed in the top 25 and four others received votes in the polls. Without exaggerating, the only Big Ten teams who didn’t receive votes this week were Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Northwestern. It’s not often that 11 teams from one league are in top 25 consideration.
