The Big Ten released its weekly award winners for Week 10 of the regular season and three teams ended up splitting the awards. Minnesota’s Daniel Oturu and Purdue’s Trevion Williams were named Co-Big Ten Players of the Week and Kofi Cockburn was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Oturu had quite a week for the Gophers, scoring 30 points in the team’s win over Michigan on Sunday and posting 22 points and 10 rebounds in a game against Michigan State. He’s now clearly established himself as one of the best big men in the country. This is the second time he has earned Player of the Week honors during his career.
Similar things happened for Williams, who had a career night against Michigan on Thursday and another great performance in Purdue’s blowout win over Michigan State on Sunday. Williams had 36 points and 20 rebounds against the Wolverines and 16 points against the Spartans. This is the first time he has earned Player of the Week honors during his career.
Additionally, Cockburn had a great week as well. He averaged 13.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per game in Illini wins over Wisconsin and Rutgers. This is already the sixth time he has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week during his career.
Congratulations are in order for all three players. Don’t be surprised if these three show back up on this list given how they have played to date.
