On Monday, Head Coach Mark Turgeon and the Maryland Terrapins received some exciting news. Four-star recruit Chol Marial announced via Twitter his commitment to play for the Terps next season.
First, I would like to thank God!! Also the people that surrounded me in this journey and my family in the South Sudan and Arizona who has always believed in me. It has been a long journey, and I am blessed . I am proud to say I’ve committed to the University of Maryland. pic.twitter.com/XuMOvygfFE

Mariel is listed as a 7-foot-2 and 230 lbs center by 247Sports. Mariel comes out of Compass Press High School in Chandler, AZ. His other college offers came from Arizona State, Florida State, Georgetown, Rutgers and Iowa.
While numerous sources teeter on whether Mariel is a three or four-star recruit, Coach Turgeon saw exactly what he needed for Mariel to join the Maryland basketball program, and Mariel saw the same thing.
Mariel joins Hakem Hart, Makhi and Makhel Mitchell along with Donta Scott in the Maryland class of 2019 that is currently ranked as the third best recruiting class in the Big Ten and 26th in the country by 247Sports.
Mariel will prove a huge addition to Mark Turgeon’s team as star player Bruno Fernando announced May 1st he would forego his last two years at Maryland and enter the NBA Draft.
