Fran McCaffery’s Iowa Hawkeyes received some good news about the eligibility of forward Cordell Pemsl, May 10th.
Pemsl, a junior last season for the Hawkeyes, averaged 7.2 points and 4.7 rebounds per game during his first two seasons during Iowa. But, during his junior season he re-aggravated an injury he sustained in high school.
After playing in only two games of his junior season, Pemsl underwent season-ending surgery on Dec. 18, this past season to remove hardware near his knee from a previous surgery he had in high school.
To save his eligibility from this past season, Pemsl and the Hawkeyes applied for a Hardship Waiver Petition. The petition was granted to Pemsl and Iowa, allowing Pemsl to have two remaining years of NCAA eligibility.
The last Hawkeye to receive this award was Connor McCaffery in 2018.
