Dalano Banton Transfers to Nebraska Cornhuskers

Fred Hoiberg’s new position continues to attract players.

After only his freshman season with the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, point guard Dalano Banton entered the transfer portal and has recently committed to play for Fred Hoiberg and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

The 6-foot-6 guard, originally from Toronto, Canada, was a four-star recruit out of Redemption Christian Academy in Troy, NY, and spent his first season in Western Kentucky. Here, Banton only averaged 3.4 points per game on 15.1 minutes per game. Despite that, he started 12 games for the 20-14 Hilltoppers this season.

Banton is the second player to transfer from Western Kentucky this season as forward Matt Horton announced his departure just hours before Banton.

While some of Western Kentucky’s top producers, including Charles Bassey, are debating their return to WKU or to enter into the NBA Draft, Banton could prove a huge loss in the eyes of the Hilltoppers in seasons to come.

From a Nebraska perspective, this is yet another transfer Fred Hoiberg has brought into the Nebraska lineup as the new Head Coach tries to turn the program around and return to the NCAA Tournament.
