Northwestern, DePaul extends intercity rivalry through 2024

The two Chicago teams plan to continue contests with five season extension

The Northwestern Wildcats and the DePaul Blue Demons have agreed to extend their competitive series through 2024 Tuesday. This agreement adds five additional non-conference matchups to both teams schedules.

If the two Chicago teams didn’t extend their series, the 2019-2020 season matchup at DePaul would have been the last contest between the two teams. But, the extensions brings the Blue Demons back to Welsh-Ryan Arena for three more years in 2020, 2022, and 2024. The Wildcats will return to Wintrust Arena in the years 2021 and 2023.

The Wildcats are 14-20 against the Blue Demons, but are in the middle of a four-season win streak versus DePaul. This win streak is the longest for Northwestern verses the Blue Demons in school history.

As the Wildcats have also won six of the past eight contests, DePaul will look to use this extension to reassert authority over their intercity rival.

The most previous matchup between these two teams came December 8, 2018 as Northwestern barley edged out DePaul 75-68 at home.
