The AP and USA Today Coaches’ polls were released earlier this week for Week 5 of the season and four Big Ten teams were fortunate enough to make the cut. In fact, all four teams were not only ranked, but ended up in the top 11 of the AP Poll. All told, it was an encouraging performance for the Big Ten.
Here is where the Big Ten landed:
Week 5 AP Poll:
- No. 3 - Maryland
- No. 4 - Michigan
- No. 6 - Ohio State
- No. 11 - Michigan State
- Receiving Votes: Purdue, Indiana, Penn State
Week 5 USA Today Coaches’ Poll
- No. 4 - Maryland
- No. 5 - Michigan
- No. 6 - Ohio State
- No. 12 - Michigan State
- Receiving Votes: Purdue, Indiana, Penn State
While it was disappointing to see Michigan State slide out of the top 10 in the polls, but to see teams like Maryland and Michigan rise up was encouraging. Notably, Michigan tied the all-time fastest rise in the history of the AP Poll, going from unranked to fourth nationally in a single week. Fans will hope a few more teams can get into the discussion in the coming weeks.
Either way, BTPowerhouse will continue to keep fans posted moving forward.
