On Saturday, the Purdue Boilermakers got some exciting news as 2020 prospect Zach Edey announced that he would be committing to the program. It was a big pickup for Matt Painter as he continues to build a really talented 2020 class.

Edey comes out of Bradenton, Florida and is currently unrated by 247Sports. However, he’s absolutely massive, coming in at 7-foot-3 and 290 pounds. Along with his offer from Purdue, Edey also had offers from programs including Baylor, Minnesota, and Seton Hall among others. He figures to be decently rated once the scouting reports come in.

With Edey’s commitment, Purdue now has three players in its 2020 class, which is now rated 30th nationally by 247Sports. Those rankings will certainly change with plenty of time remaining before the classes are solidified, but that’s a great start for Painter and his staff. There’s little debating this could end up being a nationally elite class.

There’s no telling what Edey will accomplish in the Big Ten, but this is a significant commitment for the Boilermakers that keeps things heading in the right direction. Painter has proven his worth for Purdue and looks to keep things rolling.
