Earlier this week, the Minnesota Golden Gophers got some exciting news as 2020 prospect Martice Mitchell announced that he would be committing to the program. This was huge news as Richard Pitino and his staff are turning the corner and preparing for a new season.

Mitchell is listed as 6-foot-10 and 190 pounds by 247Sports and comes out of Chicago Heights, Illinois. Along with Minnesota, he also had offers from Detroit, George Mason, Maryland, Oregon, and Xavier among others. He is rated as a four-star prospect and the 124th player nationally by 247Sports.
While he is the first member of Minnesota’s recruiting class in the 2020 cycle, Mitchell could be the start of something special for the Gophers. And even if the 2020 class doesn’t fill out as fans hope, Minnesota did welcome a talented 2019 group, featuring two top 140 prospects. Mitchell should fit in very well with those players.
Pitino and his staff still have their work cut out for the 2020 class, but Gopher fans have to be excited about bringing Mitchell into the fold.
