Earlier this month, the Minnesota Golden Gophers got some exciting news as 2020 prospect Jamal Mashburn announced that he would be committing to the program. This was huge news as Richard Pitino and his staff are turning the corner and preparing for a new season.
4-star star guard prospect Jamal Mashburn Jr has committed to the University of Minnesota. Mashburn is from Miami but attends Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, NH. 247 Sports ranks Jamal as the 85th best talent in the 2020 class (11th among combo guards) pic.twitter.com/zWf2hBbUj6

Mashburn is listed as 6-foot-0 and 160 pounds by 247Sports and comes out of Miami, Florida. Along with Minnesota, he also had offers from Auburn, California, and UConn among others. He is rated as a four-star prospect and the 88th player nationally by 247Sports.
With his commitment, Minnesota now has two players in its 2020 class, as Mashburn joins another decent prospect in Martice Mitchell. The class is currently ranked 27th nationally by 247Sports and ranked fifth in the Big Ten. Considering what Minnesota added in its 2019 recruiting class, the Gophers sit in good position moving forward.
Pitino and his staff still have their work cut out for the 2020 class, but Gopher fans have to be excited about bringing Mashburn into the fold.
